Well, after years of searching, I think I may have finally found my dream project. As kids, we all have dreamt of being firefighters and so forth. Well, as a kid I also dreamt of owning my own real fire engine. I always pictured the truck having lots of chrome, a big bell mounted on the fender and that loud "Q" siren wailing away at a million decibels. Well, after following a lead last week, I think I've finally located my REAL fire engine. It's a 1950 Maxim open cab pumper with a 500 gallon tank. The truck is mostly complete and it still runs and pumps. Of course it needs some work, but overall the truck is in excellent condition and is definitely worth restoring. As most of you know, Maxim was a very popular brand of fire apparatus here in the Northeast. Their facility was located in Middleboro, Mass. and they supplied hundreds of departmemnts with quality, custom built apparatus over the years. Seagrave eventually bought Maxim, but kept the Maxim name on the apparatus. The last fire engine to roll out of the Middleboro plant was believed to have been a 1989 custom pumper that went to Affton, Missouri. Anyways, to say I'm excited about possibly owning my all-time favorite fire engine is an understatement. I can't wait to see if this deal works out and to be able to get my hands on something I've longed for ever since I was a kid watching those big red trucks race to fires with lights flashing and sirens screaming. Wish me luck!!!

That definatly sounds like a dream come true. I always wantedt o restore an old fire truck too, we even have the one at the station that most of us want to but normal red tape stuff hold it up. Good luck on getting it, and of coarse you will have to show some pics of it.

That would indeed be a heck of a project. Would look great all shined up in a parade though.
